Each TalkInfo is available through a variety of sources:
Telephone
Specifically designed for those without access to the internet, but available to anyone, each TalkInfo can played over the telephone. Just call the dedicated number for the TalkInfo you would like to listen to, which can be found on their page in the directory.
Whilst listening you can pause/resume, skip forwards or backwards by 5 seconds, move to the previous track, next track, start of the current track, or the first track. Just press 0 at any time to hear full instructions.
If you hang up before the end, and dial back from the same telephone number before a new edition is published you will go straight to the start of the track that was playing when you hung up.
Amazon Alexa
This utilises the British Wireless for the Blind Fund‘s Talking Newspapers skill.
To setup the skill, say to your Alexa device:
Alexa, enable Talking Newspapers
Alternatively you may enable the skill in the Alexa App as follows:
Open App -> More -> Skills and Games -> Search -> “Talking Newspapers” -> Enable
Once the skill is enabled, follow the instructions for the area you wish to listen to which can be found on their page in the directory.
Whilst the service is playing there are a number of commands you may use:
- “Alexa, next track”
- “Alexa, previous track”
- “Alexa, pause”
- “Alexa, play”
- “Alexa, stop”
- “Alexa, cancel” to exit completely.
BWBF Talking Newspaper App
You can find the app on the Google Play Store for Android smartphones and on the Apple Store for iPhones or iPads.
Each TalkInfo may be found under the appropriate geographical heading.
BWBF Devices
TalkInfo is available alongside Talking Newspapers on a variety of internet connected devices from BWBF, including Bumblebee. For details contact BWBF.
